Text Box: It is surprising that, given the size of the ‘foreign’ population resident on the island for all or large parts of the year, no one has yet created a local newspaper in English to address our needs. It is hoped that Lefkas Life will fill the void. First thoughts were to create a ’proper’ paper . The downside to this is the cost of printing which would have to be met by selling advertising space and/or making a charge for each edition. Additionally, distribution would always be a problem and not everybody would have easy access.to a copy. It didn’t take long to conclude that using the www was really the way to go. Most, if not all, of us use our computers regularly and so are only a click away from reading the on-line newspaper. No one has to make a special effort to go out and fetch it and being accessible from anywhere in the world means that you can still keep up with what’s happening on ‘our’ island if you’ve popped back to your ’mother’ country. Another great benefit is that it’s free! Keeping the content up-to-date and relevant will be the key to the success of Lefkas Life. To this end we need some dedicated and keen contributors, who are prepared to put in time and effort to make this work for the community. The role will be largely ’un-sung’ but hugely appreciated and will give aspiring writers the chance to see their work published for all the world to see. If we get the format and content right we can expect to have a very large reader following…. not just locally but worldwide.
